1. Department of Electrical/Electronics Engineering
National Diploma (ND) Programme
Overview of Aims and Structure of the Programme
The National Diploma Programme in Electrical/Electronics Engineering is designed to train students in theoretical and practical aspects of Electrical/Electronics Engineering. More specifically, diplomates of the programme should be able to:
construct simple electrical/electronics circuits when necessary for use in modification or as a part of major construction;
erect, assemble and install simple electrical/electronics equipment;
carry out routine maintenance and repairs of simple electrical/electronics installation and equipment;
select and use appropriate instruments to carry out simple tests and measurements on all types of electrical/electronics installation and equipment under various conditions;
operate relevant equipment and installation whenever required, and
prepare simple bills of quantities and specifications related to electrical/electronics engineering works.
The programme prepares students to become self-dependent and to secure gainful employment within and outside the country. It also prepares students for advanced or higher programme locally and abroad. Students are also exposed to compulsory Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) which comes up after the first year of the National Diploma programme.
Educational visit to Electrical/Electronics Establishments are organised for students.
Departmental Association
The National Association of Polytechnic Engineering Students (NAPES) is the only students body in the Department.
This comprises all Engineering students, Civil and Mechanical inclusive. They are required to join the association to hone them for the advancement of technological engineering practice amongst Engineering students of all Polytechnic through activities like Engineering Exhibitions, symposia, workshops, lectures and publication of Engineering Students Journal.
2. Department of Computer Science
National Diploma (ND & HND) Programmes
Overview of Aims and Structure of the Programme
The National Diploma and Higher National Diploma Programmes in Computer Science are designed to train students in theoretical and practical aspects of Computer Science. More specifically, diplomates of the programme should be able to:
Install and manage a Computer system.
Design and run efficient programmes in a wide spectrum of fields, and in various languages.
Advise on the installation and management of Computer facilities.
Detect technical faults in Computer installation.
Carry out routine (preventive) maintenance of Computer facilities.
Educational visits to Computer Science Establishments are organised for students.
Departmental Association
National Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS) which comprises all the computer science students both ND and HND of all polytechnics throughout Nigeria.
